Quality is always an important issue for me, and a lot of mixtapes on the Internet are pure rubbish.  This one does not disappoint.

Even though I’ve known Die Young for a couple years on a personal level, I first started out as a fan, watching him spin at River Gods in Cambridge Mass.  His consistency for both mixing and selection rivals many of the best.  In the Boston area he serves as one of the best DJ’s to represent the city (most recently opening AND closing for Kompakt Label Representative  - The Field).

BeepBeat™ Mixcast V.003: Ibeepza Ibeatza.The clubs have opened up in Ibiza, which means summer is present. So, in doing my best Pete Tong impersonation: “Welcome to the Weekend”. These are the poppiest of pop-dance tunes that I would want to play out. Granted, you might be surprised as to what I’ve put on this mix. For a kid who used to spin drum’n'bass, this is a 180º.

This mix also brings a lot of influence from Australia. Sydney and Melbourne in particular have a special place in my heart. I was there two years ago in Summer (Northern Hemisphere’s Winter). Not only did the beautiful people and the incredibly healthy lifestyle win me over, but I never thought I’d say this: I started liking house. Mainstream house is played throughout malls, on radio stations, and in Lebanese kebab shops @ 2am. Think of it as the same amount of hip-hop one would hear stateside. In dedication to the land down under, I double dropped for my intro a remix from a group from Melbourne, Vandalism, with the new Axwell. Also wanna send a special “g’day” to my man Sabadox!

The first mix is here. I’ve been meaning to come up with a theme for each mix I do, but I decided for the first mix to play around, have some fun with the anthems as well as personal favorites.

The first mix went well with my brand new setup. As a thirteen year old kid who saved his chore money and spent all of it on expensive dj equipment, it’s bittersweet to pick up a piece like the very inexpensive Vestax VCI-100. Not only can it do everything 2 decks and a standard mixer can do, the effect and looping features are almost endless. Take it from me; as someone who loves the physical feel of mixing on vinyl, these jog wheels are flawless in emulating the process. Oh, and the unit is only 16″wide, has nerd-tastic LED’s, and perfectly matches the powerbook/macbook aluminum-brushed metal look.
